The Assistant Director for Doctoral Success in the UNC Office of Graduate Education (OGE) has a shared leadership role in the NIH-funded UNC Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD) and is responsible for organizing and communicating key elements of the IMSD program. Dr. Gaines monitors degree progress for IMSD students, advises individual students facing specific challenges, and leads programming to foster community and an inclusive research climate. She coordinates recruitment of students from under-resourced groups for training programs in the OGE, including the large PhD program BBSP and pre-graduate programs. Dr. Gaines also directs OGE-sponsored programming for summer interns affiliated with the School of Medicine.
