Jessica Harrell, PhDDirector of SOLAR; Co-Director of IMSD
Dr. Harrell directs the UNC Summer of Learning and Research (SOLAR) program for undergraduates from groups historically underrepresented in the sciences. She oversees the 10-week summer research experience and professional development for the SOLAR students, who participate from colleges and universities across the country. Dr. Harrell is also the co-director of the NIH funded IMSD program. In this role she works to promote the development and success of biomedical PhD students from diverse backgrounds. Finally, Dr. Harrell is also co-director of UNC’s Mentor and Mentee Training efforts, a series of workshops and programming aimed at improving the mentor-mentee relationship in the biomedical sciences.
