Dave directs the BBSP first year training program. In this role Dave oversees the First Year Group course, the BBSP rotation schedule, the BBSP academic calendar, and other aspects relevant to first year students. Dave also leads the Office of Graduate Education’s student affairs efforts including one-on-one advising for students or faculty and programming focused on wellness, training climate, and student success. In addition, Dave leads the OGE’s mentor training for faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and research staff.
Prior to working at UNC, Dave oversaw career development for master’s and doctoral students at Duke. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at North Carolina Central University, conducting research on breast cancer and biology education. He obtained his PhD in Genetics and Genomics from Duke, studying cerebrovascular genetics.
